Target Audience: 
Art Subject Leaders and interested Teachers in all Primary, Infant and Junior schools

Course outline and purpose: 
These meetings provide updates and CPD for Art to support the Primary Curriculum. They also offer colleagues the opportunity to engage in professional dialogue and share good practice around meeting common challenges.

These are termly meetings to support the continuing professional development of Primary Art leaders in schools and support them in meeting the challenges of their post.

The agenda will vary according to the time of year and the networks priorities but will cover a range of the following:

• Art in terms of content and skill
• Creating a vision for Art (Intent of the curriculum)
• Updates, developments and ideas
• Investigating assessment opportunities
• Opportunities to share good practice
• Sharing current curriculum maps
• Wider curriculum and enrichment opportunities
• Training and development on subject specific pedagogy
• School/subject priorities identified for Art by school leaders

Working towards Equality and Inclusivity in your Primary Art Provision

This session will equip Art Leaders with the knowledge and confidence needed to begin to make positive practical changes to their art provision; changes that are well thought out and authentically inclusive and diverse.

Navigating issues such as cultural appropriation and anti-racism in the context of Art Education can be challenging without support - this session will offer that and more.

Using self reflection to understand unconscious biases and how these impact curriculum development and teaching

How every child can feel valued through art experience: Reclaiming cultural capital

About Emily

Emily has been working with schools and organisations around themes of diversifying art curricula and designing more inclusive art experiences. More recently her work has included developing programmes alongside Tate (schools and teachers teams) to foster cultural appreciation, delivering presentations on themes such as Reclaiming Cultural Capital (Freelands/Artistteacher/Crafts Council) and How Primary Art can respond to a call to change (NSEAD). As well as working with cultural organisations, she continues to provide CPD opportunities for schools and teachers.
