Target Audience: Year 3, 4, 5 & 6 teachers, Maths Subject Leaders, Senior Leaders responsible for Assessing Teaching & Learning.
Course outline and purpose:
Research has also shown that children and adults have a greater chance of understanding and retaining concepts if they are taught using the concrete, pictorial & abstract (CPA) approach.
A statutory requirement of the maths national curriculum for all key stages is that children develop a conceptual understanding. This can be achieved through the combined use of CPA. Unfortunately, however, as children progress throughout KS2, manipulatives are often only given to SEND children, with many children and teachers resisting or rejecting their use. This course will support the statutory requirements of the maths national curriculum for all key stages that all children develop a conceptual understanding. It will show how manipulatives can be used to both support, extend and challenge learning.Essential Information
